1 Day Left – Locked & Loaded, Ready To Roll!
Friday, October 14th, 2005. Contest day is tomorrow, and I’m locked, loaded and ready to roll!
Today was the final day of carbing up. I ate a full 500 grams of carbs today. This was the most I have ever taken in on a friday before a show. I always cut it back in the past on Friday for fear of overdoing it and spilling over, but based on the way I look today, I may have been under-carbing in past competitions. of course, I won’t know til tomorrow if this strategy worked, but so far so good.
I drank about a half a gallon of water today (approx 64 oz or slightly more), almost all of it early in the day. I cut the water intake off completely at 5pm. I’m still using the potassium, keeping the sodium as low as possible and taking the herbal diuretic. As a result, I should wake up much sharper and “drier” looking tomorrow morning with even more muscle definition than today.
I put on two more coats of pro tan today, one in the morning and one in the evening. I’m pretty dark, so I won’t need a 4th coat this time.
Although I can’t say I’m in 100% condition (more like 99%), overall I’m pleased – especially considering this is my first show in 4 years, and only my 2nd show in 7 years (I was much more active competitively in my twenties — more than two dozen shows).
This year alone, I’ve made some major improvements in certain body parts and certain poses which were former weak spots, and I have set foot into new territory in some respects.
One thing I would have liked to have achieved is an even leaner look — all the way to the point of “totally shredded”, where there are veins all over the abs, legs, chest, shoulders, even in the upper back, and the skin is literally clinging to your abs like saran wrap. However, I am absolutely contest-ready TODAY, and still have another show in two weeks which gives me time to fine tune it even further (I’m very determined to get there before this season is over… call me a perfectionist (or call me crazy), but there is a certain “look” i’m after this year, and I’m going to get it).
I have been more ripped before; I’m around 5% body fat now and I’ve been below 4% on more than one occasion. however, today I am bigger and fuller than I have ever been at under 176 lbs. The increase in carbs above and beyond what I’ve done in previous contests has worked like a charm… so far.
I’ll post the results and at least a photo or two no later than Sunday, the day after the show, and then early in the week (probably Monday, I’ll write the full contest report with plenty of pictures! (then I get to do this all over again in two weeks!
