Wednesday, October 13th, 2005. Today the carb up phase begins! I’ll continue carbing up Thursday and Friday, as well as Saturday morning before the prejudging. Today will also be my last weight training workout. More importantly to moi, yesterday was my last cardio workout, which means this will be the first day I have not done cardio in over 15 weeks – that’s more than 100 days in a row of cardio without a miss. Yes, I’m very happy about having no cardio today… thanks for asking (contrary to some people spreading vicious rumors to the contrary, LOL, I am NO “cardio bunny”… there are lots of other things I’d rather be doing… I simply do whatever I have to do to reach my goals… cardio, eat protein + “rabbit food” all day long, whatever, I do it, but it doesn’t mean I have to like it!)

Tuesday, October 12th, 2005. Today was the last day of “depletion phase.” Do you know what that means? I’ll tell you what it means…. It means tomorrow and for the next four days, I FEAST ON CARBS!!! YESSSSSSS! Okay, okay, so it’s only oatmeal and rice and potatoes and yams and cream of rice and clean carbs like that, big deal, right? Well, it’s a big deal for ME; I’m looking forward to eating more – even more “clean carbs” – and then of course, the “naughty carbs” will come after the show, heh, heh, heh.

Sunday, October 9th, 2005. Today is the first day of the final week “depletion phase,” although, for me, it wasn’t really like “depletion,” it was just like a “business as usual low carb day,” combined with some quick, high volume, higher rep training and drinking a lot more water. Read today’s blog for the details.

Saturday, October 1st, 2005. I can’t believe it’s October already. Today was the day I originally had scheduled for my first contest – the Natural USA (first once since 2001). As I mentioned in last Monday’s blog, I’ve moved back my competition date and actually picked two new contests, just two weeks apart – the NPC South Jersey October 15th and the NPC New Jersey Gold’s Classic October 29th. Although I didn’t compete, I took the trip up to Tarrytown to watch the prejudging at the Natural USA show today. Someone asked me, “Tom, Did you find yourself wondering, “Am I going to kick myself for not doing the show, or will I be relieved that I didn’t do it?” I’ll answer that in today’s blog…

Monday, September 26th, 2005. Yup. I bumped the show date. Not only did I pick a different contest, I picked two shows in a row. Not only did I pick two shows in a row, I picked two shows that are NOT drug tested! (don’t worry, I didn’t cross over to the “dark side”, I’m still natural… I’ll explain in a minute)…. Not only did I pick two non tested shows, both shows are going to be fiercely competitive because they are national qualifiers! Wassup with that? Read on to get the scoop…

Wednesday, September 14th, 2005. I’ve been getting bombarded with emails asking me for pictures, so here you have it: This is what I look like 2 1/2 weeks out from my first natural bodybuilding competition since 2001 (It will be my 27th competition). I’m 187 lbs. in this photo (5′ 8″ tall):

Sunday, June 26th 2005. Because we’re currently lifting on a 4 day split routine, training 2 days on, 1 day off, today was an off lifting day. However, at 13.7 weeks out from a major bodybuilding competition, THERE ARE NO “OFF DAYS!” Cardio is “ON” 7 days a week at this point, for 30 minutes, usually at a steady, moderate to moderately-hard pace. This is much to the chagrin of certain fitness “experts” who tell me I’m doing it all wrong…

For the past few months, I’ve been training with my friend Mike Andreula at Empire Fitness Club in my hometown of Hoboken, NJ or at Strong & Shapely Gym in East Rutherford, NJ, a quick 15 minute drive from Hoboken. Occasionally, when the masochistic urge strikes me, I take the 30 minute trip up to Body Quest gym in Blauvelt, NY to get a beating… er, I mean a “training session,” from Richie Smyth, The legendary “Master of Pain”.
