Thursday, October 6th, 2005. I took the drive up to Body Quest Gym in Blauvelt, NY today so Richie could take a look at me go through the mandatory poses and to do a leg workout. As is usually the case at this phase in the contest prep period, he was the “voice of reason” and gave me some advice, which basically amounted to: “Eat more!”… and… “Stop overdieting and overtraining yourself to death, dumbass!” (not in those words exactly; I added the expletive at the end)… More food? I get more Carbs??? (Forgive me, I’m drooling)… Believe me, I had NO problem with that advice…
Wednesday, September 28th, 2005. I did a fairly conventional straight sets chest workout today without all the intensity techniques I usually use. However, I did keep the intensity high by using high density training. For biceps, I used a brand new routine, but I stayed with the tri-set system because it has worked so well for me this year. My ab routine was done 100% dangling from the chin up bar and on top of a ball (read on to learn more).
Tuesday, September 27th, 2005. Most of the back work I did today was focused on detailing the upper back between the shoulder blades (“back double bicep pose muscles”), and also some rowing for the mid back and belly of lat thickness (cable and barbell). Definitely hit the bulls eye with this workout.
Monday, September 26th, 2005. Allrighty then… another 2.8 weeks of hard work until the first show October 15th. Time to dial in the conditioning 100%, lose some more weight to make the Middleweights, and chisel out every nook and cranny of muscle detail and separation. Today’s mission: Keep dieting, two 30-minute cardio sessions, and blast the deltoids and triceps.
Sunday, September 25th. Strong and Shapely Gym. Leg Day… And back to low carbs again (first day of “depletion phase” actually). Low carb day and leg day… not my favorite combination, LOL! I’ll tell you, it took every ounce of energy I could muster up to get through this one. It was good to have a training partner today to push me and keep me going.
Saturday, September 24th, 2005. Don’t you just LOVE high carb day?
Thursday, September 22nd, 2005. I added yet another level to my back workout today… a wicked new tri-set. Check this out…
Wednesday, September 21st, 2005. High intensity, high volume shoulder training? Yeah, I know… It’s “impossible” to do high volume and high intensity in the same workout, right?… you either train brief and intense or long and not intense. Well, that may be the generally accepted maxim, but I assure you, today’s shoulder workout was intense and high volume (compliments of Richie… the “Trainer of Champions”… “The Master Blaster”… “The Master of Pain”… the “Insane Trainer”… LOL)…
Tuesday, September 20th. Today was leg day – quads, hamstrings and calves split into two separate sessions (double split training). Plus the ubiquitous two cardio sessions, posing, tanning, and six meals of perfectly proportioned protein and clean carbs. Ahhhh, a day in the life… It wasn’t so bad today because it was my high carb day, but based on the results over the last week, I decided that starting tomorow, I need to do something I was NOT expecting to do at all: Drop carbs and calories AGAIN! (Yes, I’m going to be grumpy)
