Wednesday, October 19th, 2005. Body Quest Gym. Blauvelt, New York. Leg Day with Richie Smyth (The “Evil Trainer”). Being so close to a competition, I was not planning on doing anything too crazy for legs today, and Richie already warned me weeks ago about my tendency for overtraining close to a show, but that didn’t stop him from pulling out an oldie but goodie from his leg training bag of tricks…I used to do this one all the time, but I haven’t done this sucker in years (the gym I train at most of the time doesn’t have the machine for it)… This is one of the most evil leg exercises and almost no one does it anymore… Even I almost forgot about it!

Tuesday, October 18th, 2005. Here we go again! Two more weeks of training then it’s time for the next (and last) competition of the 2005 season – the NPC New Jersey Gold’s Classic on Saturday, October 29th. I’ve done three shows in a year/season before, but I think two competitions is plenty for me this year… Then again, I’ve been know to change my mind, and there are more shows on the contest calendar… But then again… I’m hungry! In fact, somebody send me food in mass quantities! (anything except chicken breast and green vegetables, please!)

Monday, October 17th, 2005. I’ve finally “recovered” from Saturday’s competition (I slept like you wouldn’t believe Saturday & Sunday night, plus a couple of naps in between… it takes a lot out of you!) I also had a couple of good “cheat meals,” but today I’m right back to training and dieting for the next competition October 29th. Before I start blogging this week’s diet and workouts, today I’m simply going to post a few photos and details about Saturday’s show.

Wednesday, October 13th, 2005. Today the carb up phase begins! I’ll continue carbing up Thursday and Friday, as well as Saturday morning before the prejudging. Today will also be my last weight training workout. More importantly to moi, yesterday was my last cardio workout, which means this will be the first day I have not done cardio in over 15 weeks – that’s more than 100 days in a row of cardio without a miss. Yes, I’m very happy about having no cardio today… thanks for asking (contrary to some people spreading vicious rumors to the contrary, LOL, I am NO “cardio bunny”… there are lots of other things I’d rather be doing… I simply do whatever I have to do to reach my goals… cardio, eat protein + “rabbit food” all day long, whatever, I do it, but it doesn’t mean I have to like it!)

Tuesday, October 12th, 2005. Today was the last day of “depletion phase.” Do you know what that means? I’ll tell you what it means…. It means tomorrow and for the next four days, I FEAST ON CARBS!!! YESSSSSSS! Okay, okay, so it’s only oatmeal and rice and potatoes and yams and cream of rice and clean carbs like that, big deal, right? Well, it’s a big deal for ME; I’m looking forward to eating more – even more “clean carbs” – and then of course, the “naughty carbs” will come after the show, heh, heh, heh.

Sunday, October 9th, 2005. Today is the first day of the final week “depletion phase,” although, for me, it wasn’t really like “depletion,” it was just like a “business as usual low carb day,” combined with some quick, high volume, higher rep training and drinking a lot more water. Thursday, October 6th, 2005. I took the drive up to Body Quest Gym in Blauvelt, NY today so Richie could take a look at me go through the mandatory poses and to do a leg workout. As is usually the case at this phase in the contest prep period, he was the “voice of reason” and gave me some advice, which basically amounted to: “Eat more!”… and… “Stop overdieting and overtraining yourself to death, dumbass!” (not in those words exactly; I added the expletive at the end)… More food? I get more Carbs??? (Forgive me, I’m drooling)… Believe me, I had NO problem with that advice…
